Will lunch or dinner be provided?
Meals are not provided. The Hyatt Regency, however, has great food on-site and is conveniently located between 2nd Street and South Congress, where there are plenty of dining options. Also, see this post about other delicious places you can eat in Austin.
Will there be an information desk when I arrive?
There will be a registration table where you can pick up your badge and itinerary. Our registration manager, Linda and her registration team will be able to help you answer any questions you may have. If the registration table is empty for some reason, don't hesitate to walk up to any staff member - we don't bite. Need to know what we look like? Check out our staff page.
How early should I get there each day?
We recommend arriving no more than 30 minutes early, but no later than five minutes until our published start times. We'll be kicking things off in a timely manner and you don't want to miss out!
Will the classrooms be personable or large?
Our keynote sessions are the only large sessions we have. Everything else will be small and personable and built to be an interactive discussion with Q&A throughout vs. a presentation. Bring your questions, chime in, and add to the discussion!
How easy will it be getting more information from the speakers?
Our speakers were chosen based on their expertise and their approachability. They are prepared to interact and answer questions, so feel free to mingle as much as possible with the speakers!
What am I permitted to give out other than my card?
The distribution of unwanted materials from one individual to any other individual is prohibited. The distribution of leaflets, discount or gift cards, information packets, and gifting is a privilege and premium reserved for our official sponsors. If becoming an official sponsor interests you, please get in touch. Our GOLD LEVEL sponsorship is a very reasonable $500 and includes a conference badge.
How can I get photos from the conference?
Our official TxSC photographers will upload them to our official Facebook page. The brands that are hosting photobooths will make theirs available for viewing, as well. During the conference, use the #TxSC13 hashtag when posting photos or updates about the conference if you'd like to share your own! We'd love to see your photos.
How do I connect with the staff during the conference?
Something most conferences don't provide is simple and quick communication. TxSC isn't most conferences, so our registration team can track down other staff members at any time. We have a TxSC-dedicated cell phone! Rachel will have the TxSC cell phone on her during the conference. You can text the TxSC mobile phone at (512) 900-8979 with your needs if you are off-site and can't connect with someone at the registration table.
What are the biggest differences from last year?
Last year we hosted a a full-day of panels, where several women shared a microphone and weighed in on topics. This year, we moved to a classroom format with one or two teachers who will share their expertise. This means there is more interaction between attendees and workshop leaders! Awesome.
What are some examples of things we could learn that could benefit us as a business person?
We have a whole track specific for business owners. Public relations, avoiding rote patterns, eCommerce, Etsy, etc. We even have an accountant, lawyer, designer, and PR person on hand to answer your questions. Check out http://texasstylecouncil.com/fullschedule for more details.
I don't have a blog or run a business. Should I still come?
Certainly! Especially if you think you may start a blog or run a creative business in the future. But even if you're not sure about that, there are plenty of classes great for anyone: Jewelry making, introduction to embroidery, personal finance bootcamp, iPhoneography... not to mention our clothing and book swap, shop tour, and exciting PROM themed party! People who come to these conferences still get motivated to do things in their lives, just by interacting and learning from influential women. And we have the most influential women in the industry!
